Every student has a number of options that he or she can strive for relative to their educational goals; from taking one or two classes in a specific subject matter, or attaining an Associate Degree with the intent to transfer to another school in hopes of earning further degrees. Some of those options are discussed and laid out here. Seeing a counselor will further clarify your choices and assist you in making the best choices.
Students planning to earn an Associate Degree with emphasis on occupational or vocational preparation, and who have no plans to pursue a bachelor's degree, must follow the requirements listed in the catalog.
Students must complete the course requirements as specified in the program of study for the declared major, in addition to the general education courses.
The Occupational or Vocational Degree is not designed to prepare students for university transfer and is identified in the catalog as: Associate Degree with emphasis on Career and Technical Preparation.

Students preparing to transfer to the California State University (CSU) may follow the General Education requirements outlined in the CSU Certification pattern or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern. See a counselor for exceptions.

The transfer preparation degree is identified in the catalog as: Associate Degree with Emphasis on Transfer Preparation, page 79 in the 2020-2021 catalog.
For certain high-unit majors students must see a counselor for General Education requirements and recommended electives.
